All Aboard For Love
Alison Marlowe (28) has her life all charted out. First, she is wrapping up the sale of her family’s marina. Three weeks to go. Second, she is crewing on a 60-metre yacht across the Atlantic and starting her exciting new life in exotic locations far away from Otter’s Port. But in sails Joel Cartwright (30), a savvy businessman who is taking a break from his family’s multinational corporation and putting their old boat back in the water. Alison and Joel feel an instant spark but back burner their feelings as her life plans are taking her away from town. As Alison trains the new manager, she sees the great service her parents put in place for the boating community being downgraded. The new corporation orders cheap supplies, charges a fuel minimum and supplies undrinkable coffee. They are putting big profits before the marina’s staff and boaters, not understanding that cost-cutting will drive away customers. Marlowe’s was successful with high-quality customer service geared toward long-term repeat clients. As Joel settles in, he is very taken with the marina and how Alison is very hands on in running it. He even helps her to rescue two stranded boaters. He knows she is leaving but cannot help himself and asks her out. She is reluctant but her close friends encourage her to enjoy this summer moment. Plus, she feels something special between herself and Joel. After a few evenings in the sea breeze and under the summer stars, Alison and Joel develop real feelings. When Alison realizes that it is Joel’s family who actually owns the marina now and the corporate cost-cutting directives are coming from them, she feels betrayed. Meeting his Fortune 500 father does not change corporate policy, but it does prove that Joel solidly has her back. She is torn between her commitment to crewing on the transatlantic crossing and her instinctive need to stop the marina’s downward slide under new management. When the marina’s fish & chips shack is being closed down, this is the final straw for Alison. She steps up and commits her savings to bring the restaurant up to code. Everyone in this community is like family and she stands by them. Joel admires her even more and his feelings grow. Alison realizes Joel has opened her heart in a way she thought only the ocean could. As she leaves, Joel races by boat to propose she stay. Joel buys his parents’ marina holdings around the world. He proposes that he and Alison manage them as husband and wife. They can sail all the oceans together. Plus spend the summers at home in Otter’s Port. Alison says ‘yes’! Their summer romance has to end, but it is followed by an autumn romance, then a winter romance, a spring romance.
