Harry Crane

Harry Crane, whose career began in stand-up comedy at the age of nineteen, was a very prolific screenwriter for movies and television over a span of fifty years. After beginning in stand-up comedy, Crane became a screenwriter for MGM Studios. He wrote scripts for movies such as Air Raid Wardens (1943), which starred Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. The long list of famous actors with whom he has worked or for whom he has written include Red Skelton, the Marx Brothers, Bing Crosby and Jackie Gleason. In 1955, he was co-creator of Gleason's classic television series The Honeymooners (1955). He has written humorous material for singers such as Frank Sinatra and even politicians such as Robert F. Kennedy.

Louie Amendola (Jimmy Durante), once a vaudeville performer with his wife and daughter, hasn't been getting any work, and, as Christmas approaches, his family is homeless. They find a room at Frank Dingle's (Frank Orth) house, but don't know how they'll pay the rent. Then the money Frank's been hiding in the ceiling above their apartment lands in the Amendolas' hands when a crafty squirrel heaves it out of its hiding space, causing more complications within the household.
